Deion Sanders Is Showing Little Concern About Colorado's Transfer Portal Exodus
Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders is showing little concern about the rash of transfers out of his football program following spring practice.
Sanders lost 14 players to the transfer portal this week, but the second-year Buffaloes coach did not express much concern when speaking to the media about the departures.
"We're good," Sanders said. "I trust the recruiting team. I trust our coaches, and please have some faith in me. We good. We all right. We all right."
Sanders noted that a majority of the transfers were slated to be backups.
"I think we got some [starter-level players] coming in from visits pretty soon, maybe even this weekend, but we can attract those type of players," Sanders added. "I don't think we're losing those type of players, and if we do, we're good. We're good. We're making a big deal out of nothing."
Among the notable entries into the portal were much-acclaimed (and maligned) cornerback Cormani McClain, who had an up-and-down freshman year with the 'Buffs last season, as well as running back Alton McCaskill, who was the AAC rookie of the year in 2021 at Houston, but failed to make an impact last season in Boulder.
Whether or not the concerns of fans and media around the Colorado program are warranted remains to be seen, but the fan base will be expecting a better year two than year one for Sanders in 2024.
Colorado finished the year 4-8 overall and 1-8 in Pac-12 play.
