Impact The lefty Hurter pitched well last year during his MLB debut, compiling a 2.58 ERA and 0.88 WHIP across 45.1 regular-season innings. However, the 34-year-old Chafin has a lot more MLB experience, which could lead the Tigers to choose him as a southpaw for their bullpen to complement the likes of Tyler Holton and Sean Guenther. Hurter still probably has a leg up in the competition, though he'd likely feel more secure if he strung together some strong outings to wrap up the spring slate.

Impact In his latest Opening Day roster projection, Stavenhagen has Javier Baez and Zach McKinstry sharing the shortstop job and Sweeney opening the season at Triple-A Toledo. Nothing has been decided, as Sweeney could still very well start at the position at least against right-handed pitching, but the gig won't be handed to him. Sweeney hit .218/.269/.373 with four home runs over 36 regular-season contests for the Tigers in 2024 before going 2-for-22 at the dish in seven postseason games.

Parker Meadows - Uncertain timeline for return Meadows' timetable for a return from the nerve issue in his right arm remains uncertain, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact Dr. Brian Schulz, who is the Angels' team physician, did not examine Meadows personally, but when told of the outfielder's symptoms he immediately pointed to the musculocutaneous nerve as the likely affected nerve. Meadows and the Tigers have to wait for the nerve to "wake up," which Schulz says is "just as likely to come back within a week or two as it could be like six weeks." If it's closer to the latter timeline, Meadows would need some time to rebuild muscle in his biceps, further extending his recovery. The good news, Schulz notes, is that Meadows' nerve issue it not a permanent problem and will fix itself. The Tigers are hopeful that their center fielder will be ready to go on Opening Day, but it's a bit of a guessing game. The uncertain timetable makes Meadows a risky fantasy pick for those with drafts in the immediate future.
