Durham Bulls Savagely Roast Iowa's Football Team After Scoring 28 Runs in Minor League Game
The 2023 college football season is three months in the rearview mirror. And yet, Iowa continues to catch strays.
The Hawkeyes struggled mightily to generate offense in '23, averaging a borderline unbelievable 15.4 points per game—the program's lowest total since 1999, a year in which they went 1-10. The fact that they went 10-4 in spite of their futility moving the ball turned them into an object of national fascination—more meme than team.
On Wednesday morning, the International League's Durham Bulls took a shot at Iowa in the wake of an offensive explosion.
"Good morning. We’ve scored 28 in a game as many times as Iowa football did last season," the minor league stalwart tweeted after beating the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 28-10 on Tuesday.
The Bulls, already up 17-8, exploded for 11 runs in their half of the ninth inning to create the lopsided final score.
The Hawkeyes crossed the 28-point barrier for the only time last year on Sept. 16, when they defeated Western Michigan 41-10.
