Nebraska’s Matt Rhule Explained Why He Felt ‘Embarrassed’ While Listening to Bill Belichick in Recent Meeting
He may have no coaching gig for 2024—having parted ways with the New England Patriots on Jan. 11—but coach Bill Belichick appears nowhere near finished disseminating his vast football knowledge.
First, Belichick stopped by Washington to help his son—Huskies defensive coordinator Steve Belichick. Then, on Friday, he served as a guest speaker at a coaches' clinic at Nebraska.
Recounting his experience around Belichick, Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule freely copped to being blown away by the six-time Super Bowl champion's repository of information.
"He is so smart, and has seen so much, that he can make the complex so simple, and it humbles you and embarrasses you," Rhule said.
Belichick entered the NFL coaching ranks in 1975, and has a career record of 302-165 in the pros. The first paragraph of his Wikipedia page refers to him, correctly, as "a renowned American football historian."
"He went four and a half hours—he came in and met with our coaching staff," Rhule said. "Three and a half hours in I was like, 'Coach, would you like a water? A coffee? Would you like to use the restroom?' Because I desperately had to use the restroom. He was like, 'I'm fine, man.' I was like, 'Yes, sir.'"
