Mike Krzyzewski Offers Three Words of Advice to UConn's Dan Hurley As Face of Men's College Hoops
Moreso than any other major North American sport, men's college basketball is a coach's medium. Even in the years this century where the sport's star power has dipped, its coaches have allowed it to remain relevant—chief among them former Duke boss Mike Krzyzewski.
However, Krzyzewski's generation is slowly handing over power to a new crop of coaches. With back-to-back national titles under his belt, Connecticut coach Dan Hurley—a basketball lifer whose bookish appearance belies his near-hysterical on-court expressionism—appears poised to lead them.
On a recent episode of his Sirius XM radio show, Basketball and Beyond, Krzyzewski offered Hurley advice for his new role as the game's public face.
"... Use your voice," Krzyzewski said. "The game and college sports (are) not in a good place. You have great stuff, and you're smart, and you represent a great, great school."
The Huskies' 75-60 win over Purdue on Monday moved them to 6–0 in national championships all-time, following a 76–59 win over San Diego State in 2023's title tilt.
"Right now, you're the leader of the game. The collegiate game," Krzyzewski said. "God bless you. And congratulations, man."
