MLB Fans Roast Dreadful Red Sox Over Upcoming Netflix Show

Netflix’s latest foray into the world of sports docuseries is in Major League Baseball, but fans found their first team choice to be a peculiar one.

The league announced Wednesday that the Boston Red Sox would be followed by a documentary crew for the entirety of the 2024 season, with the series expected to debut on Netflix in 2025. Netflix is also forming a documentary on the 2004 Red Sox team that broke the franchise’s 86-year World Series drought.

Given shows like Formula 1’s Drive to Survive and the NFL’s Quarterback series, it’s no surprise to see baseball following suit with its own behind-the-scenes series. But choosing the Red Sox, who’ve missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons and mostly struck out with big names in free agency this offseason, felt like an odd decision, producing plenty of jokes from fans.

Ouch.

Off of consecutive 78–84 seasons, fan expectations don’t seem overly high in Boston. Perhaps the Sox will surprise and produce some quality documentary content in the process, but this could end up being a swing and a miss if Boston flops yet again.
