Yankees’ Aaron Boone’s NSFW Argument With Umpire Brilliantly Broken Down by Lip-Reader
On Wednesday night, Aaron Boone was ejected for the first time in 2024. The New York Yankees manager was furious with some of home plate umpire John Bacon's calls in two separate Alex Verdugo at-bats. Bacon ejected Boone in the seventh inning of New York's 5-2 loss to the Miami Marlins. The ensuing argument has now gotten the lip-reading treatment.
In Verdugo's fourth inning at-bat, Bacon gave Marlins lefty Ryan Weathers a few calls that were off-the-plate. He called the Yankees' left fielder out on a ball that was several inches outside. Boone let Bacon know he wasn't pleased but apparently didn't cross the line far enough to get ejected.
When Verdugo came back up in the seventh, Bacon called a 1-1 slider from Andrew Nardi a strike. The ball was visibly low and outside and Boone was angry. He jumped to the top of the dugout and exploded. Bacon ripped off his mask and tossed Boone quickly, leading to an intense argument on the field.
