5 Bets to Make this Week

NHL Playoffs, Formula 1, USFL, Senior Golf, English Premier League and are all on the table for this week’s 5 Bets.
This week the NHL Playoffs are getting close to the conclusion of the first round and there are two Western Conference teams that are locked in a real battle.
After a successful week in Miami, Formula 1 begins the meat of its schedule in Europe. The first stop is the Spanish Grand Prix and there is a homegrown driver that could pull off the upset.
The USFL is still providing quality football and two teams that are trying to get some momentum going are facing each other on Friday. The favorite has an edge but it should be a close game.
The PGA Tour Champions is putting on its first major championship of the year at the Regions Tradition. I like a former champion at this event to win there for the second time.
One of two teams tied at the top of the English Premier League is facing a mid-tier team on Sunday and need a victory to stay in first place.
This Week’s 5 Bets:
- Louis Blues -106 to beat Minnesota Wild
- Carlos Sainz Jr. +1200 to win Spanish Grand Prix
- Tampa Bay Bandits -2.5 to beat Michigan Panthers
- Steve Stricker +800 to win Regions Tradition
- Manchester City -188 over West Ham United
St. Louis Gives Wild the Blues
The St. Louis Blues went on the road to face Minnesota Wild in a pivotal Game 5. The Blues won 5-2 and can wrap up the series in St. Louis on Thursday. But oddsmakers have made the Wild the favorite at -105, while the Blues are at -110.
The Blues defeated the Wild in all three regular-season games, and now are 3-2 in the playoffs. Even with injury problems on defense, the Blues are finding a way to slow down the Wild. I think they’ll do the same thing at home and clinch the series on Thursday.

Sainz Jr. Wins in Home Country
Carlos Sainz Jr. has been in the mix in most of the previous five Formula 1 races this season. He’s hit the podium three times, including a third place finish in last week’s Miami Grand Prix.
Now the circuit moves to Spain for the Spanish Grand Prix and Sainz would love to win in his home country. At +1200, he is a longshot compared to favorite Max Verstappen (+110) and Charles Leclerc (+120).
Sainz drives a Ferrari and the manufacturer made improvements, but he and fellow Ferrari driver Leclerc had trouble keeping up with Verstappen in straight-line speed.
If the mechanics for Verstappen and Sainz can figure out the issue, they may prevail in Spain. I like the hometown driver at +1200 to win.

Tampa Bay Bandits Get by Michigan Panthers
Both USFL teams lost close games last week, with the Tampa Bay Bandits losing 16-10 to the undefeated Birmingham Stallions and the Michigan Panthers losing to the Philadelphia Stars, 26-25.
Now the Bandits and Panthers will try and right the ship on Friday. The Bandits are 2-2 and the Panthers are 1-3. Tampa Bay is favored by 2.5 points.
The only team the Panthers have beaten are the Pittsburgh Maulers, who are winless. The Bandits have won two games against teams with a losing record. I think they’ll make it three, but it’s going to be a sweat for gamblers.
The Bandits are seventh out of eighth in passing stats, only better than the Panthers. Still, if Tampa Bay can stop Michigan’s rushing attack, they should be able to win this game.

Stricker Seals Deal at Regions Tradition
It appears Steve Stricker has abandoned playing both the PGA Tour and the Champions, focusing his attention on the senior circuit. That should help Stricker as getting rid of the PGA Tour from his schedule will help him be more competitive on the PGA Tour Champions.
That theory will be tested this week in the senior’s first major of the season, the Regions Tradition. Stricker comes in as the second pick at +800, after losing in a playoff with Alex Cejka last year.
Stricker won this event in 2019 and tied for second the year before. He is obviously familiar with Greystone Golf and Country Club.
He did have a long layoff, only starting his season the beginning of May. In his two events, however, he finished tied for second and tied for 10th. Another reason I like Stricker to win is 10 of his last 16 rounds at Greystone have been in the 60s.

Manchester City Downs West Ham
Manchester City has led the English Premier League for most of the year but now finds itself locked in a battle with Liverpool. Both teams were tied for first early in the week.
If Manchester City is going to stay atop the EPL, it’s going to have to handle West Ham on Sunday. Man City is heavily favored to beat West Ham at -188.
West Ham won its most recent game, but has lost three of its last four before that. Manchester City has gone 4-0-1 in its last five games. Look for Manchester City to defeat West Ham and continue to stay atop the EPL.
