Eagles will Stay Undefeated against Texans

The undefeated Philadelphia Eagles head into Houston for a Thursday night date with the Texans.

This week, Thursday Night Football will feature one of two significant and simultaneous Philadelphia-Houston matchups. The Philadelphia Eagles on the road to face the Houston Texans in a Thursday Night Football matchup and the Philadelphia Phillies hosting the Houston Astros in a World Series game will both begin at around 8 p.m. EST.

It should be a big night for bragging rights between the two cities, but which factors should you be looking for to determine this prime-time NFL matchup?

Eagles Run Over Weak Texans

If you need an indication of how this game is going to go, this matchup will tell you just about all you need to know.

The Eagles have been one of the most dominant running teams in the NFL the last few years and currently rank sixth in the league with 149.6 yards/game on the ground this year.

Meanwhile the Texans defense ranks dead last in the league, somehow allowing 186 rushing yards/game. Quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Miles Sanders should have an absolute field day in Houston and rack up a ton of yards on the ground.

Texans Lacking on Offense

This half of the game should be a lot tougher to watch. The Texans offense has been pitiful this year. They average the eight-least yards/game through the air with 196.3 and are seventh-worst in the league with 92.4 rushing yards/game.

The Eagles defense is a completely different story. They have been the fourth-stingiest secondary in the NFL, allowing just 183.4 passing yards/game.

They aren’t quite as dominant against the run but are still respectable, allowing 114.7 yards/game, the 15th least in the league. It doesn’t seem like the Texans will have much room to operate in this one. Expect a very low scoring output from Houston.

Battle in the Trenches

As was previously mentioned, the Eagles have the significant advantage in the run game on offense and defense. As far as pass blocking goes, they come in having allowed the 14th most sacks in the league so far this year with 18. Lucky for them, the Texans pass rush has the ninth-least sacks in the league with just 15.

On offense, the Texans are tenth-best pass blocking unit with just 16 sacks allowed. The Eagles, however, excel at getting to the quarterback. They have the fifth-most sacks in the league with 23 so far, and just traded for Chicago Bears star defensive end Robert Quinn. Again, advantage Eagles, although by a slighter margin in the pass rush department.

Final Predictions

There is no facet to the game that the Texans are better at than the Eagles. Philadelphia should dominate this game from beginning to end, and only needing a two-touchdown margin is a blessing. Take this spread and enjoy the game.

Prediction: Eagles -14 over Texans (-110 at GoldenNugget)

The Eagles should be doing a lot of running and the Texans should be doing a lot of nothing. All signs point to a low-scoring game on Thursday night. The only scenario that results in this one going over is if the Eagles score most of, or all, of the 44 points themselves. But they should be content with a big lead in the second half and have shown that they tend to play conservatively with a lead this season. Expect the under to smash in this one.

Prediction: Under 45 (-110 at GoldenNugget)
