For Horse Race Lovers, Pegasus Brings Big Stakes, Big Bets

Gulfstream Park in Florida, horse racing’s signature winter track, will unveil a classic on January 25—the sport’s first blockbuster card of 2020. It’s the betting equivalent of must-see TV.
Horse racing magic begins Saturday, January 25, with $5 million in purses, headlined by the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational, which will draw top horses from around the world.
A companion jewel, the Pegasus World Cup Turf, supplies an additional cool million. And the card is supplemented by several races with six-figure purses. This dramatically enlarges betting pools for the entire day, and increases interest in the Rainbow Pick Six (the final six races of the day).

In recent times, individual tracks have sought to corner the market by offering at least one major race, then make the entire day a festival, attracting more customers and creating a betting bonanza.
So, figure on the LaPrevoyante, McKnight and Inside Information races for $200,000 apiece. Many tracks relish the opportunity to present a $200,000 race. There are three of them here, and they’re all on the undercard.
Add the Fred Hooper, South Bend, Ladies Turf Sprint and Turf Sprint events, for $150,000 each.
That’s nine significant races on January 25, geared to attract big fields, multiple wagering combinations and good values. What a day for Gulfstream and the bettors.

There will be several other major Saturdays in the horse-racing industry throughout the winter and spring. We’ll keep you posted.
