NASCAR’s Back, Sunday, May 17. Here Are the Drivers to Watch

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. Here comes all-you-can-eat sports betting, thanks to NASCAR.

Just as UFC returned with three events in eight days, NASCAR will do a 7/11: 7 events in 11 days, starting Sunday, May 17 with a 400-mile Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina. Watch for the green flag at 3:30 p.m. ET.

No spectators, of course, but gamblers don’t care.

For race fans frustrated by coronavirus shutdowns, justice delayed has not been justice denied. NASCAR suspended its season March 16 with only four of its scheduled 36 events on the books.

It remains to be seen if the entire circuit can be completed. But right now, bettors are happy. What follows the empty period is a potential once-in-a-lifetime bevy of binge-racing, as fans watch and wager on the events in this unofficial NASCAR carnival.

After Sunday, the schedule intensifies.

Darlington will hold an Xfinity Series race Tuesday, May 19, over 200 miles. The Cup Series events return Wednesday, May 20 at Darlington, at 500 kilometers (just under 311 miles), before the scene shifts to Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina. There will be one race a day there, every day from Sunday, May 24 through Wednesday, May 27.

Boom, boom, boom, boom. The package includes Cup, Trucks and Xfinity Series racing.

Sportsbooks wasted no time aligning the betting flags.

PlaySugarHouse.com has a number of significant attractions.

Kyle Busch (l.) is +550 to win the Sunday event, +150 to finish in the Top 3 and -335 to end up in the Top 10.

Other big names include Kevin Harvick, who’s +550 on the win line and +150 to finish in the Top 3.

Denny Hamlin returns +650 to capture the race and +135 to finish in the top 3.

Prop Bets

How well do you know your carmakers? You can wager on whether Ford, Chevy or Toyota produces the winning vehicle. You can also bet who will be the highest finisher in each a Ford, Chevy or Toyota car.

Part of the fun of sports wagering is the prop menu. Some selections represent an educated guess. Some are wild, long-shot stabs. Almost all of it can be found at the sportsbooks.

BetMGM.com has a similar selection. Odds on winners, top 3 and top 10 wagers are abundant.

Value plays? Some mid- or high-odds drivers to finish in the Top 10 or grouping some names in either of these categories.

PointsBet.com has a couple differences for fans of certain drivers.

Harvick (l.) is +600, the second favorite behind Busch, at +550. The pair have been the offered at the same price at most major sportsbooks, but there’s a bit more value for Harvick here.

Erik Jones is the defending race champ. He’s -1400 to win at most book, but -1600 here, making him a high-value 16-1 shot.
