Cardinals Begin Tough Schedule with Chiefs

Sunday, 1:25 p.m. PT, CBS

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill no longer is a weapon Patrick Mahomes can count on, but there’s still more than enough for the Arizona Cardinals to worry about here. Travis Kelce had 92 receptions and 1,125 yards last year, and you can expect even bigger numbers this year.

For the Cardinals, this is just the beginning of a gauntlet of a start, with the Raiders and Rams in Weeks 2 and 3. BetMGM has this easy-to-overlook prop under their team specials, which could actually be a serious bet to consider — the Cardinals to start 0-4 at +700. Just sayin’.

But the bet I like for this contest is the over. Arizona is 0-5 ATS in their last five home games, but what really matters is the big scoring potential between these two teams. Kansas City went over in 60 percent of their games last year, while both ranked in the Top-8 in scoring.

Pick: Over 53.5 at BetMGM

Chargers Get Best of Raiders

Sunday, 1:25 p.m. PT, CBS

Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers were on the outside of the playoffs looking in last year, but an aggressive offseason has only led to heightened expectations.

The Las Vegas Raiders won 10 games and made the playoffs last year, yet they’re still looked at as the fourth-best team in the loaded AFC West (+650 to win). Clearly, they open the season with a real gauge of how they stack up against their division rivals on the road.

This will be a shootout that could come within a field goal, with their final game of the year last year ending just that way in overtime.

Pick: Chargers +3.5 at BetRivers

Giants Begin New Regime with Same Result

Sunday, 1:25 p.m. PT, FOX

The New York Giants enter a new era with Brian Daboll taking over as head coach, but the brightest spotlight will be on quarterback Daniel Jones, who still faces questions about his future with the organization. Jones played in just 11 games with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions, putting up a QB rating of 84.8 last year.

The back-to-back AFC South champion Tennessee Titans (+180 to win again) no longer have star receiver AJ Brown, but Derrick Henry is back and healthy, and pretty much impossible to bring down when he’s running at you so, you know, that’s still a major plus in Tennessee.

Tennessee is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games against the Giants, and New York’s struggled there last year, this should be a Tennessee lean here to open the season.

If the Titans can get out to an early lead, running out the clock on the ground will be what the Giants should expect to see.

Pick: Titans -5.5 at Caesars

Pack is Back Against Vikings

Sunday, 1:25 p.m. PT, FOX

The Green Bay Packers may have lost their best receiver (by far) in Davante Adams in the offseason, but Super Bowl aspirations are still alive and well in Green Bay. They have the fifth-best odds to win the Super Bowl at BetMGM (+1200), and are third in NFC odds (+500).

The Minnesota Vikings hit 2022 with a new head coach in Kevin O’Connell (+1400 to win Coach of the Year), and sit behind the Packers (-155) in the NFC North odds (+250).

Green Bay may be used to taking that crown, but Minnesota will certainly try to knock them off, and it starts by making a major statement Week 1.

The Packers are 31-10 straight up in conference games while Matt LaFleur has been head coach, while also going 7-2 ATS at home last year, the best record in the NFL in that situation.

Even with some questions on both sides, Green Bay has handled Minnesota well recently, so a win by just a field goal here feels reasonable.

Pick: Packers -1.5 at BetMGM

49ers Looking to Lance QB Controversy

Sunday, 10 a.m. PT, FOX

The San Francisco 49ers made it clear they’re moving on to Trey Lance even with the drawn-out process that saw Jimmy Garappolo’s future sit in limbo, only to end up with him still on the roster with a new deal as a backup.

The Chicago Bears hope Year 2 for Justin Fields will show massive growth under new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and head coach Matt Eberflus.

When these two teams met last year, the Niners ended up winning, 33-22, but Chicago did have a 16-15 lead entering the fourth quarter, before everything fell apart.

With the under trend we already looked at from San Francisco last year, and the likelihood they’ll do that again to start off the year running the ball a ton, coupled with Chicago’s still growing offense leans you towards an under here.

Seven of the last eight 49ers games have hit the under as well.
