Poker Players Turn to WSOP Online

Commercial casinos may be shut down for now, but players can still find a world of online poker—and a chance to win big money, too. Just visit WSOP.com.

Normally at this time of year, avid poker players would be in satellite tournaments for the World Series of Poker, with dreams of entering the finals in Las Vegas in May, and the final table of the Main Event in July, held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

Well, as we all know, 2020 is anything but a typical year, with the Rio and every other commercial casino in the U.S. shut down indefinitely due to the coronavirus. Unless a miracle happens, there will be no final table this summer, at the Rio or anywhere else.

But if you’re a poker player in New Jersey, Delaware or Nevada, there’s hope: the World Series of Poker online, at WSOP.com.

The Spring Online Championships come on the heels of the record-breaking WSOP.com Online Super Circuit. The 18-event series running March 14-31 featured 18 WSOP Circuit ring events—the most ever for an online Circuit series.

The series guaranteed a total of $1.24 million with each of the 18 ring events guaranteeing between $30,000 and $200,000. Every guarantee was met and 12 of the 18 were at least tripled. The series ended up awarding a grand total of $3,945,350 for an average of $219,186 per event. The largest prize pool came in Event 16—the $525 million Main Event, which drew 1,134 entries and generated a $567,000 prize pool.
