Sunday Fun Day: When Online Poker Sites Offer Some of the Biggest Prize Pools

They say Sunday is the fun day and when it comes to online poker, it’s also the mon-ey day.

OK, that’s a little corny, but there’s no denying the fact that online poker sites in New Jersey and Nevada offer their biggest and best tournament guarantees on Sunday, along with a lineup of tournament play that is only rivaled by the NFL Playoffs.

First off, Sundays are reserved for the biggest tournaments of the week. WSOP.com and its partner 888poker offer the Ultimate Warrior Tournament—part of the weekend warrior tournaments—with a $40,000 prize pool guarantee. The tournament carries a $215 buy-in.

WSOP.com also scheduled its biggest freerolls for Sundays, including the BIG 5 Sunday freeroll, where gold status members are invited each week to try for one of five free entries into the Sunday $40K tournament.

At the same time, BorgataPoker and partner PartyPoker present their own $40,000 guaranteed prize pool tournament at 5 p.m. Sunday. The tournament also carries a $215 buy-in and allows for three re-buys.

For the holiday weekends, including December 24 and 31, the guarantee is $30,000. Participate in both of the holiday tournaments and you’ll get $75 in tournament dollars.

At WSOP.com, the regular Sunday schedule also includes a $7,500 guaranteed tournament at 4 p.m. (buy-in $50) and two $10,000 guaranteed tournaments at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The 6 p.m. tournament has a $500 buy-in, but the real bargain is the 7 p.m. tournament with a $100 buy-in. There’s one more $10,000 guaranteed tournament (buy-in $100) on WSOP’s regular schedule on Sundays at 8 p.m.

Back at Borgata, there is a full lineup of tournaments on Sunday, some with buy-ins as low as $5. The big tournaments—along with the usual $40K at 5 p.m.—include $10,000 prize pool guarantees at 6 p.m. (buy-in $162) and at 7 p.m. (buy-in $109). There’s also a $5,000 guaranteed tournament at 8:30 p.m.—a six-max tournament dubbed the Sunday Wrap-up with a $109 buy-in.

So, that’s a lot of high prize pool tournaments packed into one calendar day. Not to mention that the two $40K tournaments are the highest prize pool tournaments offered in New Jersey all week.

Like we said, for poker tournament players, Sunday is the fun money day.
