Tropicana Kicks Off Free-to-Play Sports Betting with World Cup Soccer, Baseball

The start of sports betting in New Jersey has been a major story as the state joins Delaware in taking live real-money bets on games. It’s all because New Jersey won a court battle before the U.S. Supreme Court striking down a federal ban on sports betting.
That means the three states offering online betting—along with Nevada which was exempt from the former sports betting ban—now also have legal sports betting.
But sports betting in Delaware and New Jersey is now only available at live sports books, with online betting scheduled to come on board later—at least 30 days later in New Jersey.
In the meantime, Tropicana Atlantic City has launched a free-to-play sports betting site: Tropicana Sports. Launched with the Chalkline Sports platform, the site allows sports fans to win real prizes including overnight hotel stays at Tropicana Atlantic City, complimentary meals and drinks, VIP parties and more.
The site includes daily, weekly and monthly contests on all your favorite tournaments and leagues, including baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, golf, horseracing, car racing, tennis and more.
Right now, the site is offering parlay games—where you pick the winners of several games—for baseball and the World Cup. Winners get entered into weekly sweepstakes, where they can win prizes like an Amazon Echo Dot, free overnight stays at the Tropicana Atlantic City (Sunday to Thursday) and restaurant gift cards.
The site is totally free to play and game play couldn’t be easier. Just click on the baseball daily pick and you’ll see five games come up. Just make your picks, enter your email address and you’re entered.
Tropicana has not announced its plans for real-money sports betting at the Tropicana in Atlantic City or for an online sports betting platform through TropicanaCasino.com. Still, the casino—like most Atlantic City casinos—is expected to move forward with sports betting, and the free-to-play site seems like a perfect start.
Towards that end, Resorts Casino (with DraftKings), Golden Nugget casino (with Churchill Downs) and the soon-to-open Ocean Resort (with William Hill) on Atlantic City’s Boardwalk have all announced online partners for sports betting.
The Borgata, which was the first Atlantic City casino to begin taking sports bets, has announced it has teamed with IGT to power its sports book. The company already runs betting through a mobile app for MGM Resorts (which owns Borgata) in Nevada.
Monmouth Park Racetrack in New Jersey has also started sports betting, as has Delaware’s three racinos: Dover Downs, Delaware Park and Harrington Raceway & Casino.
Online sport betting is definitely coming in New Jersey and possibly Delaware. We’ll keep track of the updates here at iGamingPlayer.com, but in the meantime, you can already play for free at Tropicana.chalkline.com and get in a little practice.
